Donostia

Since my most loyal reader (si, afri, me refiero a ti) doesn't quite control dutch very well, I'll give the English language another try!

What's happening some 1500 kms below Belgium? Well, one thing I simply love about Spain are the holidays. What's special about them.. well, ehm, they just have more of them! Anyway, I had 1st and 2nd of May off and went with a friend to Donostia aka San Sebastian. What's there to know about San Sebastian. It's a city in the Basque country. San Sebastian is the Spanish name, Donostia is the Basque name and Basque in Basque is actually Euskara (everyone still with me?)

I took the night bus from Madrid to Donostia. I think I'm actually españolizando because where I used to not be able to sleep anywhere else then a bed, I was already sleeping before we left Madrid.

And who did I find in Donostia, yep, my favourite Spanish friend, Africa and another friend, Puertolis.

It was a bit hard finding a hostal beforehand, but with a little help from Luis, I found the cutest lady, called Barbi (for real) who rented 2 rooms in her appartment, which looked exactly as we were expecting from Barbi. If anyone ever needs a hostel in San Sebastian, please, ask me her number! She's too cute to be true!

San Sebastian was really fun, it was very sunny, so a lot of people were on the street and on the beaches. San Sebastian is a popular beach and surf spot. We spent most of our time walking around the city, eating ice creams, taking pictures, lying on the beach, going to the typical pintxos bars and all those exhausting things that you're obliged to do on holiday.

The thing about Euskara is that it doesn't ressemble any language at all. In the beginning I thought the city was swarming with russians but taking a closer look they did have a more coloured skin then most russians do so...

The city is on both sides bounded by mountains. On the right side there is one with a castle, a huge Jesus statue, a steep climb and, luckily for us, a bar halfway.

On the other side, the mountain is even steeper, but it has a funicular to go up, amazing views, a tower (promising "La vista mas bonita del mundo") and a funfair on the top! Wihi!

The mystery river isn't as mysterious as they pretend it to be though!

Having fun at the blowing holes! (and having troubles growing up some might say as we spent lots of time here)

With my friends! Seeing Africa in Donostia made realize I didn't even visit Barcelona yet during the last months, so when I got back to Madrid I immediately booked a ticket to Barcelona to see all of my friends there... (see next post!)
